About the Author

Anne has written her entire life and has the boxes of angst-filled journals and poetry to prove it. She's been writing for public consumption for the last four years. Leisa's Review of "If We Were A Movie" by Kelly Oram

"If We Were a Movie" is the third book published in a series called 'Power of the Matchmaker', however, it is a stand alone novel and, as such, can be read independently.  Twelve different authors have come together to write 12 stories that are being released monthly throughout 2016 as well as a prequel novella that was released in 2015.  While each book is a stand alone novel there is one character shared between each book to link them all together, a matchmaker named Pearl.  I found this book by chance when checking to see if authors I've enjoyed reading in the past had any new releases out and haven't read any of the other books from the series.




This particular story follows two NYU students, Nate and Jordan.  Nate is studying music composition in the hopes of becoming a musician and Jordan is a film major who dreams of becoming a film director.  They are introduced to each other by Pearl when she tells Nate that Jordan has a room to rent.  Nate assumes that Jordan is a male so is surprised to realise that Jordan is in fact female when he goes to view the apartment.  The story follows through the development of their friendship and it's impact on their relationships with other characters and their goals for life.  Pearl makes little cameo style appearances throughout the book to 'help out' at critical points in the development of their friendship.

There are many movie references made throughout the story as Jordan believes that everything that happens in life has already been used as a movie plot line. Kelly Oram uses this belief of Jordan's as a story telling method that I feel adds something a little bit special to the book.  Each chapter is named after a specific movie title and, at some point in the chapter, there is a references to the movie and a break down of how the movie is relevant to the events that have occurred.   One chapter actually references a fictional movie from another of Kelly's books (Cinder & Ella) but the other chapters seem to be linked to movies that have actually been released.  I wasn't necessarily familiar with all the movie titles used but enjoyed the humour behind some of the events linked to movie titles that I did recognise.  In fact, there were points in time where I was literally having to stifle my laughter as I read.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and didn't want to put it down once I started.  While I'm not familiar with the other authors that are writing for this series, I'm considering trying some of the other books, my interest in the series is certainly piqued. 

The book is a New Adult story and doesn't explicitly mention anything more than kissing.  If you enjoy a light college romance style story, this book is worth checking out. 

Britt: ARC review. (Not so) Good in a Room. A Novella by Dakota Madison

(Not so) Good in a Room review

I received this book free, in exchange for an honest review. I found this author/book randomly on Facebook. Considering I've never heard of her work before I was pleasantly surprised. I normally will not read a novella unless it's part of a Paranormal series. And usually will not venture outside the Paranormal/fantasy genre. However I did enjoy this romantic comedy type novella. 

Nell is an average socially awkward girl, nothing especially exceptional about her, except her writing. At "pitchapalooze" she meets an annoying and attractive man, that 'kinda' writes also. And in turn his cousin, an actor. She suffers from a social anxiety that keeps her from speaking in large groups, moments of nervousness and important meetings. Which makes it hard to pitch her screen plays, right? Well the boys think they have the solution.

The love triangle in book isn't overly strained, the drama is non existent, and the trials they face are extremely believable, and realistic. And leave room to follow up the story on the man who didn't win Nell's heart. He could have mine, I'm definitely interested in reading his story. The next book in the series.

I don't have much experience in reviewing romance without fantasy, but this novella was really well written, and had a very enjoyable touch of humour. Even as a novella it felt short to me. She spends the whole story confused about her feelings, so the ending seems a little rushed to me. I wouldn't have minded 1, or 2, or 30 more pages ;).. I'd especially like to see that producers down fall, she was a bitch.

 I'd feel very comfortable giving it a 4/5 stars.

If you like vanilla romance, you would certainly enjoy this little number. The copy I received was without a cover, so I'm gonna keep my eye out for that in the future.

Book Week Costumes - The Rainbow Fish

Each year, as part of a week long celebration of books and reading, my children's school has a dress up day where the students are encouraged to come to school dressed up as a character from their favourite book.  My children have had 3 years of costumes so far and I have had fun making their costumes for them each year.

This year was the first year that my son was participating in the book week celebration as a student.  He selected "The Rainbow Fish" as his favourite book/character so it was time to try to work out a way to make a costume for that theme.  I decided to use a similar style of costume to the one I made for "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and go for a sandwich board idea. 



I made up a basic fish shaped pattern and some fins as well as a shape that looked scale like (thankyou old CDs once again).  Using several different coloured materials I made up scales that were as close to the images from the story as I could get.  Each scale was made using 2 pieces sewn together with the open hem at the top of the scale.  Then I sewed the scales onto one of my fish pattern pieces in rows.  The sequin material played havoc with the needle on my sewing machine because of the thickness and pure bad luck.  I ended up breaking 3 different needles by the time the costume was finished ... oops!

Once the scales were all sewn to the front I created the fins using the pieces I'd cut out and some gold, zig-zagged ribbon.  I used the same ribbon to add detail to the tail of the front piece to the costume too.  A small loop of blue ribbon was placed at the top point of the fins so that the fins could be held out from the body a little bit by slipping one of his fingers into the loop.  The fins were layered over the scales along with the ribbon to form the ties over his shoulders and then I placed down the 2nd side to the piece and sewed it together, leaving the bottom of the tail free so that the piece could be pulled through to the right side.  Special care was necessary here to make sure that I didn't accidentally sew the scales in a way that meant they'd catch as I tried to turn things right side out.  For the back part of the sandwich board I used the basic fish shape (no fins) and made it double sided with the ribbons for ties but didn't worry about scales or other decoration for this part.  A quick hem across the bottom on both parts and the majority of the costume was finished.

The hat was constructed using the same method as the hats from "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" costume.  I laid 2 pieces of a light blue felt over each other and sewed an arch around them before trimming the material down to close to the seam and turning the hat right side out.  I then sewed on the lips and eyes that I'd cut out of scraps of felt I had to finish the hat off.  In hind-sight, I probably should have sewn the eyes on before creating the hat shape because sewing them on after the hat was constructed wasn't the easiest thing to do but the lips in particular needed to be sewn on at the end so that they'd go over both sides of the hat.

He wore a blue tracksuit underneath the costume with a pair of blue shorts and a blue shirt as an option for as the weather heated up through the day.  He was thrilled with the costume and, as he got out of the car at school, I heard another student recognise his costume as "The Rainbow Fish" which was fantastic to hear.

Blood Beyond Darkness was above and beyond better than what I thought it was going to be. I knew that this book was going to be extremely good, but it was epic. I have been a fan of this series since book 1 Darkness of Light. I have followed Eli and Ember's journey, and I freaking love those characters like they are my family members. Stacey has created a world that I will never forget, and I hope you guys won't forget this awesome series as well.


I cried, I laughed, I yelled, I cursed, and at one point I thought my heart had stopped beating. Blood Beyond Darkness was by far the best book that Stacey Marie Brown has written. Half of the time I did not know up from down. I literally could not book this book down. I can not tell you how long I stayed up just to finish this book. To say I devoured BBD is just a statement. I lived it, I breathe it, and most of all I loved it. Stacey kept me on the edge of my seat biting my nails because I was afraid of what was going to happen next. It is crazy, I am sitting here crying as I am writing this review. I know for a fact that my review will not even come close to how I felt about this book. I am so sad to see this series end, but at the same time I can't wait to get my hands on Stacey's next book. If you have not read this series, I think you definitely should, because you are missing out on one kick ass series.


Best part, but yet worse part about this book...all of the characters really grew up in this book. Don't get me wrong they were still crazy and funny, but it is just something about knowing you or someone you love may die that changes the way you see the world. Before I talk about Eli and Ember, I want to talk about Kennedy, Embers best friend.


Kennedy was one of the main people that really grew up in this book. She was always the quiet and reliable friend. But in this book she was a leader. At first I was hesitant about this new Kennedy, but I changed my mind quickly. I really liked this new Kennedy. I think Ember was really shocked at first too. That is just how much she changed. That battle at the end... yeah AMAZING!


Ember and Eli on the other hand did not really change that much, and I am so glad Stacey kept them mostly the same. Their flirty banter with each other has always been so cute , but it was even better this time around. The sexual chemistry between them was always hot, but this time it was burning up the pages, and I loved every moment of it. I have always loved Eli, but I love him even more. He was so sexy, protective, sweet, just... he was Eli. Stacey, Thank you. That is all I have to say.


Okay, I hope someone agrees with me. Simmons and Cal; which are the 2 pixies, are the funniest. They were cracking me up through out the entire book. I freaking almost peed my pants while reading the scene with the glitter and Eli! They were the best most loyal pixies ever!


Thank you Stacey for this awesome world, and these amazing characters. You are a extremely talented author, and I am so stoked to read your next book. Again if you have not read this series, please give it a read because you are in for a serious treat!

Holy smokes what a book.

My Minds Eye was absolutely amazing. Ryker, Ryker, Ryker. What a sexy swoon worthy character. That dirty mouth hooked me. So fucking hot.

I devoured this book and loved every. freaking. moment. I am now an HUGE fan of the author. She is going on my auto-1-click list.

Claire is one of those best friends that every girl needs in their lives. She is sexy and fun. She brings out the best in Kat.

She is always by her side no matter what. Now, thats a friendship. I love the playful banter between Claire and Kat. I think that really made the book.

Not gonna lie. The cat and nmmouse game between Kat and Ryker was hot.

I truely enjoyed this book. Excited to see what's next.

RoomHate by Penelope Ward was an amazing funny and heartwarming read. I was so excited to read this book.

I adord Justin. Not only was he sexy, he was so sweet. I loved that he treated Bea like his own daughter the first moment he laid eyes on her. Swoon worthy for sure.

The chemistry between him and Amelia was hot. I was rooting for them the entire time. They really belonged together.

Over all this was a great read. I devoured this book, and I am excited to see whats next from Penelope Ward.
